A Mix of New and Nostalgic

Retro Reads Bookstore was founded by Carol Clancy in October 2023. Carol is a book lover who has dreamed of having a bookstore since she was a kid. That dream seemed to end when Amazon took over the world, but the local indie bookstore has refused to die. People still want to be out and about in the community, especially after the long years of the pandemic. And where better to go than a local bookstore?

Retro Reads Bookstore is “retro” in that it is a small, cozy space where you can take your time to browse and relax with a cup of coffee. Comfortable chairs and tables are available both inside and on the outdoor patio. The store has an eclectic mix of books carefully curated. Those who grew up with this kind of bookstore may find it nostalgic, while for younger generations used to the digital age, this kind of retro store will be “new again.”

Categories include:

• Fiction (general fiction, classics, mystery/suspense and a small section of science fiction)

• Nonfiction (psychology, spirituality, health, nature and animals, and smaller sections on writing and literature, History and Virginia)

• Memoirs

• Poetry

The store has indoor and outdoor seating areas and tables for small-to-medium gatherings. Rental space is available for meetings and events.
